Fort Wayne, Indiana, ranks Number 1 City in “Hottest Real Estate Market”

August 12, 2019

August 12, 2019, Fort Wayne, Indiana — A comparative analytic research article published by REALTOR.COM has named Fort Wayne, Indiana, as the top-choice city in the United States for the hottest real estate market in July 2019, bumping larger metropolitan areas down or even off the list of 20 most-desirable housing markets. The results, published on August 8, include three Indiana cities, adding Lafayette and the Elkhart-Goshen regions to the coveted slots.

By definition, the “hottest markets” have strong economies with notable job growth while having a better cost of living: lower home prices, more starter homes, and a very competitive cost of living. Realtor.com conducts the research that analyzes the markets with increasing online search and views paired with the median number of days that houses are on the market. Fort Wayne topped the list with nearly three-times the number of views versus typical properties across the rest of the country, while Fort Wayne’s days-on-market housing sales fell seven days over the past year.

“Fort Wayne is a hot market,” says Beth Walker, a Fort Wayne-based real estate broker and owner of Fairfield Group Realtors and current president of the Upstate Alliance of Realtors in Indiana. “Buyers are realizing two key factors: first, they may be able to buy a house and have a monthly payment less than rent; and second, they have to be prepared to act fast because Fort Wayne homes don’t linger long on the market.”

The trend for smaller, less expensive cities is on the rise, especially when “buyers can secure a good-sized home and not be mortgage poor and get a good quality of life” Walker summarizes. “Affordable markets with community attractions and reasonable proximity to larger cities make markets like Fort Wayne especially enticing.”
