Upstate Alliance of REALTORS® Honors Top Real Estate Professionals at Annual Awards Event

The Upstate Alliance of REALTORS® (UPSTAR) honored four of its most active members last month with awards recognizing their faithful service to their association, their profession and their communities.

At the December Membership Meeting, UPSTAR honored the following longtime members:

Jim Torres of Century 21 Bradley Realty — Torres was awarded the 2011 REALTOR of the Year Award for ongoing and consistent service to UPSTAR and his profession. Torres is a past president of UPSTAR and UPSTAR MLS Boards of Directors and a past board member of the Indiana Association of REALTORS®. He has served on numerous UPSTAR committees and represented his local association at the National Association of REALTORS® annual conference.

Robert Ellenberger of Coldwell Banker Holloway —Ellenberger was recognized as the 2011 Hall of Fame Award recipient for a lifetime of contributions made to his association and the real estate industry. He has been in the real estate industry for 65 years—before the enactment of Indiana License Law. He is a past president of the former Adams, Jay Wells Board of REALTORS®, where he was instrumental in organizing and obtaining a charter for the local association. He held multiple local board positions over the years and was honored as Auctioneer of the Year in 1974 and REALTOR® of the Year on two occasions—1979 and 2005. Additionally, he was commissioned in 1988 by Gov. Robert Orr to the Indiana Auctioneer Commission and honored as a Sagamore of the Wabash from the State of Indiana.

Sandy Young of Dreibelbiss Title Company —Young received the 2011 Affiliate of the Year Award for her extraordinary support of the association and for demonstrating business leadership in the community. She has been a member of the association for more than 10 years—serving UPSTAR through monetary donations and volunteer hours at events and real estate educational programs. In the community, she holds membership in the Chamber, Southside Alumni Committee, Lincoln Bank Committee and Home Builders Association. Sandy also serves as Treasurer and Elder for North Christian Church and just received a 50th year pin for service to Eastern Star.

Ann Marquardt of Coldwell Banker Roth Wehrly Graber —Marquardt was presented with the 2011 Outstanding Service Award for performing exceptional service on behalf of the association during the past year. She was a member of the UPSTAR Board of Directors in 2011 and has served on numerous association committees over the years. Marquardt was instrumental in launching the UPSTAR Habitat for Humanity Work Group, which raises funds to support the local Habitat organization. Passionate about providing housing for those in need, Marquardt has also served on the Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors and continues to work in the community on affordable housing issues.
