Mandatory Ethics Training

The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) has an ethics training policy, implemented in January 2001, which requires all REALTOR® members to complete not less than 2.5 hours of approved Code of Ethics (COE) training within a specified time frame or cycle. Effective January 1, 2017, the NAR Board of Directors amended the time frame for Code of Ethics training from a four-year cycle to a two-year cycle. Members must take a Code of Ethics orientation course during their provisional membership period. After which, they are subject to the next full cycle. The current two-year cycle ends December 31, 2018.

UPSTAR offers the required Code of Ethics training as part of the New REALTOR® Orientation on a quarterly basis. Additionally, UPSTAR frequently offers the course as part of the 12-hour CE package and as a stand-alone course on an as-needed basis. Check the UPSTAR online calendar for upcoming COE offerings.

Training is also available online through NAR (linked below). This online course requires registration on the realtor.org (NAR) website. To register, have your NRDS number ready, then follow the link: NAR Ethics Training Course

UPSTAR is responsible for verifying that its members have met NAR’s Code of Ethics requirement. Therefore,* if you take your Code of Ethics training through another source, you must provide a copy of the certificate to UPSTAR upon completion of the course.* Failure to complete the required periodic ethics training shall be considered a violation of membership duty for which REALTOR® membership shall be suspended until such time as the required training is completed.
